The Red Barrows and Daring Dogs Pack Out a Family and Dog Friendly Event at the Dodson & Horrell Chatsworth International Horse Trials 10–12 May 2019

5th April 2019

The Red Barrows Display Team will be bringing their tongue-in-cheek wheelbarrow arena display to this year’s Dodson & Horrell Chatsworth International Horse Trials (10-12 May 2019).

It’s just one of the attractions on offer alongside the world-class equestrian competition featuring elegant dressage, exciting showjumping and gripping cross country which makes this a great day out for all the family.

Dodson & Horrell is delighted to be hosting top class competition over the weekend with many of the world’s best riders coming to participate at this prestigious venue which also plays host to the UK leg of the Event Rider Masters Series (ERM) in 2019.  Gemma Schwarz, Head of Marketing at Dodson & Horrell said: “We are really looking forward to the Horse Trials which is one of the most enjoyable weekends in the year. There is so much on offer such as the Have-a-Go Agility and Family Fun Dog Show, children’s entertainment, the British Scurry and Trials Driving, Pony Club Mounted Games, as well as a wonderful array of trade stands and, of course, the top-class competition.  We would not miss it and hope that you will join us all on this weekend in May.”

The Barlow Red Barrows Display Team guarantee laughter as the uniformed pilots carry out ‘breathtaking’ manoeuvres with red wheelbarrows based on those of the RAF Red Arrows but at a slower speed and at ground level.

Fittingly for the #Chatswoof season celebrating man’s best friend, dogs feature in all sorts of entertaining ways, whether it’s the chance to put pooch through his paces with have-a-go agility, entering the fun dog show or admiring the skills of the dog display team.

The Paws For Thought team demonstrate entertaining tricks and games to help with dog training. For more insight into canine behaviour, the Mullinscote Gun Dog Display Team will give an energetic show employing various training methods, human and dog psychology, featuring dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes.

There’s even the chance for a bear hug with a very special group of canine lifesavers; the Newfoundland Dogs of the UK Rescue Bears, the National Newfoundland Display Team. Originally bred as a water rescue dog, these huge bear-like animals will be meeting and greeting and even offering dog cart rides for little ones.

Around the Chatsworth Estate, the programme is packed with demos, shows, have-a-go activities and children’s entertainment on both Saturday and Sunday along with a quality food and shopping offer. New for 2019, the Tractor Ted children’s area will feature a Tractor Ted bouncy castle, digger den, a driving track, welly wanging and an activity trail. There’s also a climbing wall suitable for all ages.

The Duchess of Devonshire’s chosen charity for the horse trials this year is CHICKS, the children’s charity which runs a respite centre for children living in difficult conditions from across the UK. CHICKS will have a stand offering table-top pig race, farmyard-themed arts, crafts and games and a live performance from Extreme Cello. Inspired by Chatsworth’s current dog-themed exhibition, CHICKS will also be offering dog treats on the day, fresh water and a ‘dog throne’ for photogenic pooches to pause for a selfie.

Gates open at 8.00am each day. Dogs on leads welcome. Day tickets on the gate for Saturday and Sunday are £20 for adults and £5 for children aged 5-14. All tickets include free parking and child prices apply for children aged 5–14 inclusive. Book tickets online before 12 May to receive up to 25 percent off the gate price.
