Point-to-Point need to know facts for the season ahead

4th December 2015

With the D&H sponsored Point to Point series set to get underway at Barbury Racecourse this weekend, here are your need to knows and reasons why you should head down to your local meet this season.

1. Up close and personal

Unlike most races where ticket pricing is tiered, Point to Point meets have a set entrance fee and viewing platforms are open to all; just be sure to get there nice and early to get a good spot by the winning posts, most gates open two hours before the first race.

2. Pack up that hamper

Point to Points are a great opportunity to enjoy a home crafted picnic with friends. On-site bars and catering is available should you need a top up, however most see it as a great opportunity to set up camp by the car and watch the action whilst tucking into tasty homemade treats.

3. Wrap up warm

There is no dress code so feel free to attend in your finest country attire. The season starts in November and finishes in mid-June so a warm coat and wellies during the colder months are a must.

4. Bring your four legged friends

Point to Points are the perfect opportunity to have a great family day out, dogs included! However, dog owner etiquette is as important as usual so make sure to keep them on the lead at all times and please bring waste bags to clean up after them.

5. Place your bets

There are normally two ways to place a bet at a Point-to-Point: with the Tote or a bookmaker. Both are usually located near the starter’s paddock. If you're unsure how to place a bet just ask, everyone is friendly and someone is bound to be happy to help you out.
