Piggy won on 12 year old gelding Jakata, owned by Mr Wally French & Mr Michael Underwood. The combination has recently been selected for the World Equestrian Games (WEG) in Kentucky in September and cemented the selection with this fantastic win. Piggy and Jakata finished on a final score of 48, adding only 3.2 cross country time penalties to their dressage score of 44.8. Piggy and Jakata finished 1.2 points clear of second placed rider Andrew Nicholson on Avebury.

Piggy will next be competing at Sapey Horse Trials (17th & 18th August).

Oliver was eighth after dressage in the 70 strong class and moved up to take the lead with a clear round over the coloured poles with Olivia Tappinâ’s Irish-bred nine-year-old by popular sire Ricardo Z.

They then jumped a swift and clear cross-country round to take the lead which could not be matched by the rest of the class and Oliver finished on a final score of 30.8, 3.4 points ahead of second placed rider Sharon Hunt on Azeb.

Oliver took the ride on Jeepers Creepers this time last year: “He is not the easiest to ride and can be a bit spooky show jumping but that was by far the best round he has ever jumped”, said Oliver after producing one of nine clear show jumping rounds in the class.

Oliver last won the Novice Championship in 2005 and has also won the Intermediate Championship twice previously.

Oliver was just one of two combinations from the 53 finishers in this class to finish on their dressage score.

The Festival hosts the Dodson & Horrell Novice Championship and visitors tomorrow will be able to enjoy the show jumping and cross country and see who is crowned this year's champion.

33 years since Sir Michael Stoute had his first winner at the Royal Ascot Meeting his success continues.   Following on from her victory in the Dahlia Stakes (Gr.3) earlier this season the Newsells Park Stud homebred Strawberrydaiquiri ran out a thrilling short-head winner of the Windsor Forest Stakes (Gr.2) under jockey Ryan Moore.  Strawberrydaiquiri showed fantastic attitude just beating last year’s winner by a short head.  Sir Michael Stoute’s success continued on Saturday when the four year old Harbinger was an impressive winner in the Hardwicke Stakes (Gr.2) completing a hat-trick of Pattern races this season.  This was Moore second winner at Royal Ascot and he went on to snatch the prize for leading rider in the very last race of the meeting.

Sir Micheal Stoute also had placed horses in the The King George V Stakes (2^nd London Stripe), The Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (2^nd Imposing), The Ribblesdale Stakes (2^nd Eldalil), The Sandringham Handicap Stakes (3^rd Safina), The Queen's Vase (3^rd Total Command), The Wolferton Handicap Stakes (3^rd Kingdom of Fife) and The Queen Anne Stakes (4^th Zacinto).

Newsells Park Stud – Success at Royal Ascot

Following on from her victory in the Dahlia Stakes (Gr.3) earlier this season the Newsells Park Stud homebred Strawberrydaiquiri ran out a thrilling short-head winner of the Windsor Forest Stakes (Gr.2). Trained by Sir Michael Stoute and ridden by Ascot’s top jockey, Ryan Moore, Strawberrydaiquiri showed fantastic attitude just beating last year’s winner Spacious by a short head. 

Success continued for Newsells Park Stud when Rite of Passage caused a big upset in the Gold Cup outpacing Age of Aquarius in the final furlong of the two-and-a-half mile Gr. 1 race. Rite of Passage, bred and raised at Newsells Park Stud, was purchased by trainer Dermot Weld as a yearling for just 20,000 at Tattersalls.

Great week for Barry Hills at Royal Ascot

Trainer Barry Hills enjoyed a successful week at Royal Ascot, ending the meeting with two winners and a second. Despite a frightening stumble coming out of the stalls Equiano went onto retain the King's Stand Stakes (Gr. 1) crown for the second year.  Equiano will stand at Newsells Park Stud, a long standing customer of Dodson and Horrell, for the 2011 season.  Barry and Michael Hills were back in the winners' enclosure after Ransom Note won the Britannia Stakes by less than a length.  Barry Hill’s Red Jazz also raced well being narrowly beaten in the The Jersey Stakes (Gr.3) despite breaking the track record.
