18th November - O’Dwyer takes the win in final U23 British Championship Qualifier
Gloucestershire based showjumper Emma O’Dwyer, won the final qualifier at Addington Equestrian Centre on Saturday for the Dodson & Horrell and the World Class Programme U23 British Championship Final, which takes place at the London International Horse Show, Olympia on Friday 20 December 2013.
A challenging course was set for the thirty-four starters, by Olympic showjumping course-designer Bob Ellis. In an action-packed contest, seven combinations produced clear rounds to head through to the jump-off, where five riders recorded double clears.
Producing two of the five double clears, Emma took the win aboard her mother’s Miss Tonic and also took fifth place with HHS Figaro. Excel Talent squad member Chloe Winchester (Avoca Valkyrie) finished a close second, ahead of Ben Walker (Victory VI) and Scarlett Ward (Milena 8), whilst Jess Dimmock (Capello II) was sixth.
World Class Showjumping Performance Manager, Rob Hoekstra commented; “The number of riders able to jump this kind of qualifier has definitely increased which is a very positive sign. It was an exceptionally good course and competition at the weekend and I’m really looking forward to seeing the competition at Olympia”.
There was a total prize fund of £1650 for the qualifier, and Training Vouchers to the value of £725.00 awarded to the first six prize-winning riders currently eligible for British team selection.
