19th September - Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds at Pyecombe Show

The Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds continued last weekend (Saturday 15th September 2012) at Pyecombe Show, West Sussex. Brendon Stud in Pyecombe played host to two of the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds, namely the first of the 0.90cm class and the third 1.00m class.

Following a competitive season of first round competitions, competitors rode for the chance to qualify for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree International Equestrian Centre in November 2012, and all of the starting combinations were all hoping to secure one of the twelve direct qualifying tickets on offer for the Championships.

The 0.90cm National Amateur Second Round saw 34 starting combinations begin their qualifying campaign and from these combinations, 24 made it through to the jump off. In the jump off, 13 riders achieved an immaculate double clear, which meant that the times were to decide the places.

The overall winner was 21-year-old Helena Gurdin from Dorking, Surrey. Helena rode a superb double clear to secure the win and a Championship Final place on board her own 17-year-old bay gelding, Hillowan Bumble Bee. Helena rode two accurate rounds to get her double clear and she achieved the second clear in a time of 30.28 seconds to seal the win.

25-year-old Jack Moore from Horsham, West Sussex secured second place, having been beaten by only 0.01 of a second! Jack rode Pristina Van Het Rubenshof, a 13-year-old bay mare owned by Shelley Anthony. It was his second clear in a time of 30.29 seconds to ensure he finished in second place.

The combination that finished in third was 17-year-old Lucy Hart from Alton, Hampshire, and she secured her Championship Final place on her own 18-year old grey gelding, Okehurst Just Jacko. They produced their second clear in a time of 32.15 seconds.

A further nine riders also achieved their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Championship Final.
