25th October - Dodson & Horrell and British Dressage unite for lucky thirteen
British Dressage (BD) is delighted to announce that leading horse feed specialists Dodson & Horrell have signed a contract today to continue their valuable support of the British novice championship. At 13 years, this is one of the sport’s longest running sponsorships and is testament to Dodson & Horrell’s commitment to riders and horses at this level.
For open and restricted riders, the championship is undoubtedly a proving ground for the sport’s future stars. Current Grand Prix horses Classic Sandman (2004), DV Stenkjers Nadonna (2005), both currently ridden by Gareth Hughes), 2012 Intermediate I champion Chagall (2009), partnered by Isobel Wessels, and most notably double Olympic gold medallist Valegro (2007) all have worn the Dodson & Horrell winner’s rug, sash and rosette.
Sam Horrell, Marketing Director at Dodson & Horrell, said: "Dodson & Horrell is proud to support the British Dressage Novice Open and Restricted Championships for another year, which marks our 13th year of sponsorship. As a company we are committed to investing in novice riders and the British Dressage series provides an excellent platform for such riders to compete at a national level. 2012 was an incredible year for sport in the UK and we look forward to this continuing in 2013 and watching our potential professional riders of the future in action."
The novice championship is open to around two thirds of the total BD membership – some 7000 horse and rider combinations. Riders begin to qualify for the 2013 championship from 01 December 2012 by attaining scores over 65% and 19 points, ten scored at dedicated qualifiers, to go forward to a series of summer regional championships. A good placing here gives them a coveted ticket to the National Dressage Championships at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire in September 2013.
BD’s Chief Executive Amanda Bond commented; “I’m thrilled Dodson & Horrell are continuing with this vital sponsorship which affects so many of our members. Their status as official supplier of nutrition to Equestrian Team GBR underlines their support at the elite end of the sport but equally the longevity of this novice relationship demonstrates dedication to all. We look forward to a great year of qualifying and on to the culmination at Stoneleigh where, who knows, our next gold medal winner could be discovered.”
