9th September - Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm and 1.10m National Amateur Second Rounds at Badgworth Arena

Two Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Second Rounds took place on Sunday 8th September 2013 at Badgworth Arena in Ayrbridge, Somerset and competitors took part in a 0.90cm second round and a 1.10m second round.

All of these competitors were hoping to collect one of the twelve direct qualifying places on offer for the Dodson & Horrell National Amateur Championships, which take place at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool during the 14th – 17th November 2013.

Thirty-six combinations came forward to compete in this 0.90cm second round and the jump off was well contested with twenty-three combinations producing a first round clear. An impressive total of fifteen competitors went on to produce a double clear, leaving the clock to decide the qualification places.

The fastest double clear of this second round was produced by 54 year-old Mark Bennett from Stroud, Gloucestershire on his own 11 year-old brown mare, Marnie Of Rossin. The combination produced an immaculate double clear in an exceptionally quick time of 31.18 seconds to take the win.

Second place was taken by 43 year-old Samantha Churchill from Cullompton, Devon and she rode her own 10 year-old black gelding, St Anne’s Ranger. Their double clear in 31.73 seconds secured the combination a top two finish.

Third place went to 45 year-old Paul Urch from Hanham, Bristol and he was on board his own 14 year-old bay gelding, Surprice Boy W. A double clear produced by the combination in 33.26 seconds secured them a place in the Championship Final.

An additional nine riders also went on to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 0.90cm National Amateur Championship Final.

Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Second Round.
This second round saw a total of thirteen starters come forward to compete and six combinations went on to compete in the jump off. The jump off saw three double clears produced and once again, the times proved to be critical.

Hannah Thorne (20) from Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset took the win in this second round on General Maximus, a 17 year-old grey gelding. The combination produced a superb double clear in a fast time of 30.35 seconds and in doing so, they booked their place in the Championship Final.

Finishing up in second was 50 year-old Jackie Price from Newport, Gwent and she rode her own Spring Showers, an 18 year-old bay mare. They achieved their double clear in a time of 31.20 seconds.

Third was taken by 16 year-old James McLachlan from Devon and he was on the 17 year-old bay stallion, Moschino V, owned by Zoe Bagwell. This combination achieved the third and final double clear of the second round and they finished on a time of 38.32 seconds.

Three additional riders also went to achieve their qualification for the Dodson & Horrell 1.10m National Amateur Championship Final.
