Farmhouse Breakfast Week - 24th - 30th January
Nutritionists have long championed breakfast as the most important meal of the day, so with Farmhouse Breakfast Week loomimg, what better time to make sure you benefit from a hearty, healthy breakfast?
Whilst the mornings tend to be frantic for most of us, making breakfast doesn't have to take a long time and eggs are one of the quickest, and healthiest, options for us. Scrambled, boiled, poached or fried, eggs offer lots of health benefits and with more and more of us keeping hens at home, there really is no excuse!
If you don't have hens, buying your eggs from your local butcher or farm shop is a means of supporting local suppliers and farmers and gives you the traceability so many of us look for these days. One such local supplier in Nottinghamshire is Vera Oxby. Vera has a flock of around 800 free range Warren hens and as well as selling her eggs from home, she also supplies the Hambleden Hall Hotel and Bakery in Rutland. She feeds all of hens on Dodson & Horrell Layers Pellets and couldn't be happier with the results. She says ' All of my hens lay eggs with lovely deep yellow coloured yolks and whites that are nice and compact around them - my customers can't speak highly enough of the eggs, so the proof really is in the pudding as they say.'
Vera is getting involved with Farmhouse Breakfast Week, so if you would like to too, please visit www.farmhousebreakfast.com for breakfast facts, recipe ideas and details on how to register your breakfast event.

Boiled eggs & soldiers, delicious!
