Developmental problems are a major concern for breeders. All our youngstock feeds have been specifically formulated to help optimise joint and bone development and minimise the risk of nutrition related developmental problems. Recent research suggests an association between the glycaemic nature of feed and the occurrence of developmental problems, such as osteochondrosis dissecans (OCD).

However, working alongside the Institute of Animal Nutrition in Leipzig and Hannover, Dodson & Horrell has thoroughly measured the insulinaneimic and glycaemic responses of all our stud range to ensure that when they are fed correctly, they help maintain the levels of sugar and insulin in the body within normal limits. In genetically susceptible individuals this could help reduce the risk of developmental problems. We have also made sure that our feeds have optimal dietary cation anion balances to promote bone mineralisation. Highly available copper is included as our ongoing pasture research has highlighted that UK pastures are always deficient in copper and in some cases can provide the horse with less than 15% of its requirements.
